It?s REVEAL day!
If you saw yesterday?s post, you read all about the evolution (and the juice backstory details) about how this space has been in transition for the last 3 years.?? Since that?s outta the way, we can get right to the good stuff?? The fun and exciting ?after? pictures.
Some of the elements in the space are new (not much, but a few), but many have been repurposed or are DIY creations, which I will be sharing over the upcoming weeks.
But let?s get right to it.? My newly designed home office / family room?
And just so you remember, this is the before?
I just love this space!? With it?s evolution, the space has become one that truly reflects my classic eclectic, ?shop your home? style.? Plus it?s a great representation of my love for color.? Mixing in the old with the new, the repurposed with the upcycled, this space is fresh, stylish, and modern (with a hint of trendy? and I?m good with that).
The walls were painted Van Deusen Blue by Benjamin Moore last Summer.? I looked at alot of deep blue hues and this was a favorite because it was a true blue without having much red or yellow undertones.? It wasn?t electric blue and it wasn?t too dark either, but instead a bold, striking blue.? Anyway, I love it and the white bookcases, mouldings, and accents are a beautiful, stark compliment.
I feel blue is a fairly universal color (as is yellow).? It can be paired with almost any color and is a great compliment.? In my home, the other predominant color is deep (burnt) orange.? The strong orange hue can be seen on accent walls in my powder room and living room, as well as in pillows and accessories throughout, including this space.? Even with the open concept floor plan, the orange and blue hues marry so well together.? And the pops of yellow finish the look!
This next picture coming up is a view into my home office / family room from the kitchen.
At the end, is the wall of windows (almost), which lets in a HUGE amount of light.? To the right is the foyer / staircase, and to the left is the sofa and the painted laminate bookcases. The bookcases used to be separate flanking the desk, but now they are together side by side.? It was a little tricky positioning them side-by-side, but that wasn?t too difficult to fix.? And actually, if you read yesterday?s post (or the previous post on this space), you?ll remember that the right bookcase is actually covering a window.? YES, I said COVERING A WINDOW.? Crazy, I know.? But it makes the room work so much better!? O, what you do for design?
This is such a great space to work in now.? It?s not only bright and inspirational, but it?s surrounded by meaningful things including family photos, keepsakes from our travels, and artwork we love.
Many of the elements in the room were here before including the sofa, the coffee table, the bookcases, the artwork, and even the garden stool.? With the addition of new pillows and a few new accessories, along with moving things around (a.k.a ?shopping your home?), the space took on an entire new aesthetic.
Having the bookcases side-by-side gives the illusion of a library-like space.? It?s far from a typical ?library?, but the way the bookcases are styled with a combination of books and accessories, the overall composition brings character, color, and intrigue to my new home office / family room.
The LIGHT?? The natural light and the actual light fixture are Ah-Mazing! I adore both.? This room has a huge amount of natural light and with my desk positioned in front of the window, I feel like I work outside most of the day.? It?s surely inspiring.
The actual light fixture is also a favorite and that I purchased from Shades of Light.
Going way back, the desk was originally designed for my Mom Cave in the basement.? I had created the space and planned to do all my work down there, but it was too dark and drear ? I never used it.? The shelves are still in place with all my crafting supplies, but the desk has been in front of this window for about a year ? so much BETTER!
The desk itself was created using (2) 3? wide X 12? deep laminate bookcases.? For the work surface, I purchased a 3/4? piece of plywood, covered it with fabric (stapled underneath), then had a 70? long x 30? wide piece of 1/4? glass cut to size, which sits on top.? The shelves of the bookcases underneath allow for plenty of storage, yet I don?t actually see the ?stuff? because they face each other and are hidden (definitely a plus since it hides my clutter).
O, and the drapes ? total DIY.? Can?t wait to show you.? Don?t they look professional?? Nope?
O, and this is my blogging companion, Jessie.? Most days this is where you can find her? (did you see her in the above picture?? She loves to be in front of the lens)
And the pinnacle spot of my new home office?? My HUGE, Giant, Humungous, Amazing Inspiration Board.? I?ve been wanting, needing, obsessing over having to have one FOR-EVAH!? You?ll have to come back soon for the details, but in the meantime, let me just say it?s great. Yes, I have pinterest, but I also have tangible inspirational images that I want to see, and this is an answer to my prayers.? It?s mega? ;)
This seating vignette is really the only new thing in the room that I actually bought as-is (I splurged, what can I say?).
As you may have seen in yesterday?s post, the large green club chair and ottoman went to the basement and these were brought in for more seating.? They are white ? I know, crazy with kids ? but they?re so comfortable.? The fabric is a subtle microsuede, so they are super soft.? Above is the travel inspired subway art that I created last year, topped off with my gorgeous new bright yellow garden stool.
Some of the other details?
New revamped coffee table.
Perfect inspiration board.
Sophisticated light.
I?ve got loads of tutorials coming up + I?ll share all the details on where things are from later this week!? I hope you enjoyed my newly designed Home Office / Family Room. If you?re interested in something specific, let me know and I?ll be sure to share it ASAP in the upcoming posts.
O, and if you like it, would you pin it or share it? Thanks a billion!
